Richie Webb

SB Trainer Examiner / Guide

Richie Webb (aka NomaDice) is a snowboard instructor professional from Oxford, UK, who’s been snowboarding since the 1990’s, they first came to Japan in 2013 chasing reports of deep powder. Richie has fallen in love with so much more than the incredible snow—the people, the calmness, and the food keep drawing him back each year after year.

With 43 seasons under his belt and over 25 years in the industry, Richie has ridden and taught everywhere from his home base in New Zealand to mountains across North America, Europe, and Chile. As a SBINZ trainer and examiner, he’s passionate about developing the next generation of snowboard professionals while still getting stoked teaching guests to unlock that next level in their riding. He set up NomaDice in 2018 to market training courses, powder camps and splitboard workshops, these are aimed at those wanting to master riding the deep days we get here in Japan or those keen to venture out into the Hokkaido backcountry, tailoring everything to what each person wants to achieve.  Throughout the season he works with snowsports schools across Japan to provide certification training and coach snowboard instructors to level up their game and pass that next certification.

What makes Richie different is simple: “It’s not about me, it’s about my guests.” Drawing from his background as an artist, he brings creativity to every lesson, focusing on inspiring experiences rather than just ticking progression boxes. His teaching style adapts to each person rather than following a rigid formula, pulling from diverse techniques to help guests get the most out of their time on the mountain and keep that stoke alive.

For Richie, Hokkaido is a snowboarder’s paradise. The terrain is playful, perfect for nailing those first turns, experiencing deep powder, or taking your first backcountry tour. The reliable snowfall means you can count on fresh snow, and there’s enough variety to keep everyone happy while staying accessible and fun for all.

Kate - Instructor Training

(5/5)

“Having trained to be a snowboard instructor I was really wanting to take my riding to the next level. I found the perfect instructor in Richie who really focused in on me, and developing my own ‘voice’ as a rider, bringing different aspects of the sport from freeride and freestyle, incorporating technique from varied and different schools and trainings. I felt he could see everything in my riding and how to improve it, tweak it, and introduce new elements that were challenging and took me out of my comfort zone. As Richie might say, I was able to locate my ‘happy place’ riding around Saas-Fee.”
